覺得最大的收穫：雖然只去了一個月，但還是可以對美國的工作環境這和醫療系統這方面有個概念

A. 申請的大概流程：
在網站有詳細的介紹，在這邊分享我申請下來的一些學弟妹可以注意的小細節:
大概在預計去的月份的半年前開始動工，我是先填好on-line application->telephone interview->paper work(all documents including immunization form which might take one and half to two months to complete)-> send all the documents and wait for the result
I got my confirmation letter around 6 weeks before my applied month

 

B. Malpractice insurance:

C. 住宿：

我是住在Anthony's Town House，我住的時候是淡季，單人房一個月一千塊左右，旅館有吹風機、微波爐跟冰箱可用，離醫院用走的約15分鐘。

 

D. 醫院工作：
每個醫院科別都會不一樣，跟的team和R不同也都有關係，我就針對在BID ortho的trauma team我當時遇到的情況。
Preround: start around 5:30am. Prerounding with intern and try to be helpful(helping record the vital sign and perform the basic PE and then write them down on the progress note)

Round: start at 7 am and usually takes 30 min.

OR: Stick with the R. See the patient in the holding area. Transfer the pt from the holding area to OR when the room and all the other stuff are done. You need to drive the bed when you are the one in the front! Make sure you wear your mask when you enter the room. Wear gloves when you help transfer the patient to the OR bed. Grasp the bed out of the room when it's done. If you are gonna scrub in, put your gloves on the table yourself.(Sometimes the scrub nurse might do this for you though. most of the time they don't.) When the surgery is done, go take some warm blankets for pt.
Help wear the compression socks on pt if they need. Transfer the pt back to recovery area. In a word, do something and be helpful!

Floor: Ask your intern if they need any help.

Clinic: You can log in the BID portal in advance and see what kind of pts that your attending has that day.

Ground round: Every Wednesday morning at Brigham. They invite famous ortho surgeons to give a speech.

I worked with trauma team for the first two weeks and with sports team for the last two weeks. Compared to trauma, sports is a much easier service. They don't have many inpatients in sports.

E.吃:
BID的cafeteria菜色不多，中午時間允許的話可以到BID west campus對街的Dana Farber三樓吃。如果你是在BID west campus的刀房的話，在那邊你可以找到免費的咖啡機，請在stair B右轉，進去應該是麻醉科醫師休息室的地方，那邊有咖啡、牛奶等等。

F.其他：
Samuel Adams brewery 位在波士頓，搭地鐵可到，有Free tour，周末有空有興趣的人可以去看看。
