This my second time to go to US and the time from least is around 5 year age. This trip is during 10-12 November. My advisor and I lived at a local hotel, Hampton Inn in Philadelphia. Hampton Inn located in five minute-walk to the convention center. The first date, I went to registry center to get a registered name card. All actions in the conversion center are not allowed without registered name card. The first talk in the morning is regarding the role of gene on obesity. Obesity has been admired that high associated to develop to kidney diseases. The gene, was named Leptin, interacts with the lipid cell and Hypothalamus. The volume of Leptin was less in obesity patient than normal. To treat leptin replacement in obesity patients could reduce their body weight. After the great speech, many people from the world have been arrived the center and to contribute their knowledge for each presentation of poster. We had Malaysia food for diner in Chinese town with other nephrologists from Kaohsiung Medical University Hospital.
The second date is my poster presentation day. My adviser and I prepare two topics to resent our originality from Taiwan. My study is to explore how many people will use Chinese herb after they has been newly diagnosed chronic kidney diseases and effect of Chinese herb use on risk of CKD. However, we found the protective effect in Chinese herb using group compared to never using group. This finding is interesting because the main stream in science had overemphasized that Chinese herb is harmful for kidney. Our presentation was attracted someone to ask questions. One investigate, named Kathleen G. Dickman, feel so surprised because that my results was contrast to her finding, that was published in famous journal, Kidney International. She will go to Taiwan next Journey and invite my adviser to join their meeting at Taiwan University. This a big extract gift from this trip.
In the last date in Pennsylvania, we go round in the University of Pennsylvania. University of Pennsylvania is historic school. In the campus, there are many historic statue likes Benjamin Franklin and beautiful maple. The scene is too beautiful to describe with any word. At the end of the trip, the other surprised thing is I went to EVA air VIP room with Elite class due to one staff’s mistake. This is my first time to go to VIP room at airport. Comfortable foods, sofa, and drinks in the VIP room were free offered to guests. Since the attendant claimed that is mistake to me; however, the mistake let me get the experience to use the VIP room.
In conclusion, this trip is value to me. Since the trip is not long enough to go to several place in Philadelphia. Eventually, I would like to appreciate the National Science Institute and Kaohsiung Medical University to provide funding to support the trip.
