2. About meeting and host

ACS annual meetings organized by American Chemical Society twice in the year (spring and fall) about 12,000 chemical professionals attend at each national meeting.
247th ACS National Meeting & Exposition was organized by American Chemical Society (ACS) which is a scientific society based in the United States that supports scientific inquiry in the field of chemistry. ACS currently has more than 164,000 members at all degree-levels and in all fields of chemistry, chemical engineering and related fields. It is the world's largest scientific society and one of the leading sources of authoritative scientific information.
It also has the great scientific contribution all the new inventions of the world. The publications division of the American Chemical Society provides the worldwide scientific community with a comprehensive collection of the most-cited, peer-reviewed journals in the chemical and related sciences.
ACS Publications publishes more than 40 journals, Chemical and Engineering News, ACS Legacy Archives and the ACS symposium series via its award-winning web-based platform. ACS journals are #1 in citations or Impact Factor in the seven chemistry categories as well as nine additional categories.

3. Official programme

3.1 Sunday, March 16
The theme of the meeting was ‘Chemistry and Materials for Energy’ the meeting officially began with plenary session by Dr. Jens K. Norskov (Department of Chemical Engineering, Stanford University), Dr. Héctor D. Abruña (Cornell University) Dr. Michael R. Wasielewski (Department of Chemistry, Northwestern University).
All presenters give the excellent presentation on catalysis for sustainable energy, fuel cell and battery materials and molecular approaches to solar energy conversion.

3.2 Monday, March 17
Oral session start at morning 08:00 am on asymmetric reactions and synthesis through whole day different professors and researchers give oral presentations on heterocyclic and aromatics, new reactions and methodology, organic synthesis, green chemistry.
I joined the section C which focuses on the recent advances in C-H functionalization. This is related to my current research interest all the presenters give excellent presentations on the recent advances in C-H functionalization.
At evening from 08:00 pm – 10:00 pm I attended the poster presentation on organic chemistry and medicinal chemistry.
3.3 Tuesday, March 18
Morning session (section C) started at (08:00 am) with metal mediated reaction and I was the first presenter for this session. I present our recent studies under the title “Copper catalyzed synthesis of carbamates by direct C-H bond functionalization of formamides”

During this presentation I interact with audience by answering their questions. Remaining day I attended the presentations on recent advances on C-H functionalization. In this section the world’s famous professors (P. S. Baran, L. Hamann, V. M. Dong, J. A. Ellman, J. F. Hartwig, H. M. Devis, T. Cernak, S. Chang, J. Yu and M. J. Gaunt) give the presentation on the current studies on C-H functionalization.
At evening from 08:00 pm- 10:00 pm I attended the poster session in which different posters in field of organic chemistry watched.

3.4 Wednesday, March 19
I attend the presentations on recent advances on C-H functionalization, total synthesis, new reactions and methodology. I also joined the poster sessions at evening 07:00 pm- 09:00 pm on heterocyclic and aromatics, new reactions and methodology.
On this day all the organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry and natural product chemistry presentations and posters over.

3.5 Thursday, March 20
I attended presentations on organometallic chemistry. This was the last session of 245th ACS National Meeting & Exposition.

4. Participants’ experience

I am fortunate to have this excellent opportunity to the world-renowned city of Dallas to participate in such a prestigious international meeting.
Dallas (also described as Cow boys city), with its richly mottled huge buildings, its sly, sophisticated.
The venue is quite special, Dallas Convention Center with all facilities, stylish and luxury.
In this five-day meeting I attend the world class presentations and I learn the lot of things from these presentations such as how peoples present their ideas, presentation styles and preparations. How they answer the questions. I also participate several times in questions and answer sessions where I learned how to develop new ideas with creativity, how peoples are using new techniques for their research. How to publish your research soon and in good journals.
I also got new ideas from different research areas like organic synthesis, medicinal chemistry, enantioselective catalysis, new reactions and methodology, green chemistry and metal mediated reactions during this meeting which may lead a quality publication in future.

5. Summary and future perspectives

Attending the 247th ACS National Meeting & Exposition, Dallas, Texas, USA.  I come to know the international conferences, meetings and seminars is a good opportunity to expand our horizons where we can see the latest and the most new ideas, research, concepts and techniques which will be useful for our study.
Due to this meeting I got chance to represent our school globally. To discover new research and publish our work, learn new technologies which will help me to advance my career. I also share ideas, knowledge and interact with famous professors and researchers in my research area from all over the world. This will definitely help in future for collaboration of Kaohsiung Medical University and other schools from different part of the world.

6. Acknowledgments

I would like to my sincere thanks for the Office of Global Affairs (OGA), Kaohsiung Medical University for financial support and giving me the opportunity to attend the 247th ACS National Meeting & Exposition, 16-20 March 2014, Dallas, Texas, USA.  I am also thankful for professor Fang-Rong Chang and professor Jeh-Jeng Wang for their continuous support and inspiration to attend this meeting. I would like also thanks to all my lab mates, collogues and OGA staff for their kind help and guidance for OGA grant application procedures and suggestion and comments, advice for preparation of presentation.
