一、參加會議經過

This year, the 5^th Asia Oceania Mass Spectrometry Conference (AOMSC) and the 33^rd Annual Chinese Mass Spectrometry Society Conference (CMSS) was held in Beijing, China, where scientists, academicians, doctors, corporate employees, and graduate students from around the world attended the five-day conference to present their research in mass spectrometry. At least 200 poster and 150 oral presentations were hosted after a careful selection process, with plenary lectures from distinguished academicians such as Drs. John Yates and Jinying Li. Poster and oral presentations were categorized in topics ranging from inorganic mass spectrometric analysis of trace elements to organic and biological mass spectrometric analysis of protein and lipid biomarkers. Vendors from large scientific companies such as Bruker Daltonics, Shimadzu Corporation, AB Sciex, Perkin Elmer, Waters, Thermo, and Agilent Technologies had booths and seminars where they each introduced state-of-the-art mass spectrometers and mass spectrometry- related technologies. There were several presentations from scientists in Asia, including Taiwanese scientists from universities such as Academia Sinica, National Sun Yat-Sen University, and Kaohsiung Medical University.

二、與會心得

This was the second year I attended the AOMSC conference. Due to the competitiveness of the oral presentations, I had a poster presentation this year. My presentation focused on the detection and imaging of metal chelation complexes using mass spectrometry in various samples, during which I received an outstanding poster award. I am very grateful that my presentation was accepted due to the competitiveness of the selection process, in which many high-quality talks and posters were presented. I found the posters and presentations very interesting because of the thought and effort put into the research by many top scientists around the world. However, since the AOMSC conference is the biggest mass spectrometry conference in Asia and Oceania, there were many presentations and posters which I did not fully understand because of their different research interests; this made me realize that I need to learn more about mass spectrometry, and to further strive for excellence in my studies as well as in other fields of research.

三、建    議

Although the AOMSC conference is held in Asia and Oceania, it is also for scientists who want to present their findings to an audience of fellow researchers from around the world, especially since the conference is also the largest mass spectrometry conference in Asia and Oceania, with over 2,000 members in attendance. Professors, doctors, and graduate students are encouraged to present their findings at the AOMSC conference because of the prestige and honor associated with the conference. Attendees can also meet with corporate employees to discuss purchases of new mass spectrometric technologies, or discuss with each other on topics of similar interest. In short, more Taiwanese involvement in the AOMSC conference, specifically those from KMU, will help bolster the standing of KMU and Taiwan to scientists around the world.
